For Immediate Release: UNH-IOL teams with Defense Department to deliver DURHAM, N.H., Dec. 4, 2003 – The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) will join with the U.S. Department of Defense and key technology and industry innovators to present results from the “Moonv6” next-generation Internet project at the North American IPv6 Task Force’s (NAv6TF) U.S. IPv6 Summit 2003, the UNH-IOL has announced. Driven by the North American IPv6 Task Force (NAv6TF), the Moonv6 project has deployed the largest multi-vendor IPv6 network to date. Ben Schultz, managing engineer for the UNH-IOL, will summarize technical findings from the completion of phase I, the project’s initial interoperability and test period, at the U.S. IPv6 Summit 2003 in Arlington, Va., December 8-11. He is presenting with Major Roswell Dixon, MSCIS, Tactical Data Systems/IPv6 Action Officer, GIG Tactical Networks Branch, Joint Interoperability Test Command. The UNH-IOL is also planning to exhibit Moonv6 during the Summit with a technology demonstration showcasing the new protocol’s effectiveness for running common applications. Phase I of Moonv6, which ran October 7 – October 17, involved more than 30 networking and test equipment vendors, service providers, and commercial, academic and military organizations, and deployed an aggressive IPv6 network from Durham, N.H. to San Diego, Calif. The Moonv6 project is a collaborative effort between the UNH-IOL, the North American IPv6 Task Force (NAv6TF), Internet2 (I2), and the Joint Interoperability Testing Command (JITC) along with other DoD agencies, including the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. “Through cooperative events like the Moonv6 project and NAv6TF’s IPv6 Summit 2003, interest in ‘new Internet’ technologies is leading to surprising insights and new models,” said Ben Schultz, UNH-IOL managing engineer. “The U.S. IPv6 Summit 2003 gives us an opportunity to bring together what we’ve learned and accomplished so far, and to further advance discussion of the protocol in the company of major players such as industry analysts and executives, the Defense Department and others working to highlight the benefits of early adoption.”
